Hey y’all!
Reece and I are both nerds and love to read (it’s one of the things we bonded over 😉). I typically have several books that I am reading and I try to read different kinds of books. Honestly, there aren’t many genres of books I don’t like! So let’s get started,
- milk and honey by Rupi Kaur: The back cover reads -
this is the journey of
surviving through poetry
this is the blood sweat tears
of twenty-one years
this is my heart
in your hands
this is
the hurting
the loving
the breaking
the healing
-rupi kaur
I love this because it’s simple but powerful. The book is split into four sections the
hurting, the loving, the breaking and the healing. The opening statement is, “my heart woke me crying last night how can i help i begged my heart said write the book.” Kaur is so vulnerable through the whole book, but this statement shows how she used this as an outlet to heal. I have only gotten through one and a half sections but here are a two of my favorites:
“every revolution
starts and ends
with his lips”
“I do not want to have you
to fill the empty parts of me
i want to be full on my own
i want to be so complete
i could light a whole city
and then
i want to have you
cause the two of us combined
could set it on fire”
- The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
One of my all time favorite books is The Great Gatsby so I am really excited to read this
book. Plus, I got it at Barnes and Noble for $5! I have actually only read the introduction to this one so I don’t have much to say about it yet.
- Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
So, I’ve seen the movie several times (okay like a hundred times) but had never read the
book. I am currently 69 pages from the end but I am pissed off at Savannah - if you’ve seen the movie or read the book you will know why - so I haven’t finished it and I am not sure when I will. Up until that point, I loved it and of course Channing Tatum being John in the movie REALLY helps 😍I’ll let y’all know when I finally finish it lol
- Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
John Green is probably my favorite author so I was ecstatic to hear he was coming out with another book! I have only gotten a couple pages in with this one but so far I really like it. One of my favorite things about Green is how easy it is to connect to the characters. My two favorites by him (this might change after I finish this one) are Looking For Alaska and Paper Towns. Also, Fault in Our Stars is a phenomenal! If you’re looking for a great book, check out any of John Green’s.
Let us know what books you love or are excited about!

Rose
Who doesn't love talking about books, and hearing what other people are reading?? Honestly, it's one of the best ways to learn something new about a person: ask them what their favorite book is, and then read it. These are some of my favorites:
-The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
This should be a staple on everybody's bookshelf. My mama's favorite story of me was from I was really young, I don't remember how old. Every week she would go looking for the Shakespeare book, and every week it would turn up in my room. When she asked me about it, I said, "I just can't help it, Shakespeare is the funniest man I've ever met."
My favorite play is the comedy Twelfth Night. It's not as popular as say Romeo and Juliet or Macbeth, but I'm certain most people have some knowledge of the play. If you enjoy Shakespeare, and you haven't read this one, I encourage you to read Twelfth Night next.
"If music be the food of love, play on."

-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I read To Kill a Mockingbird in my senior year of high school, and I've read it at least once a year every year since then. I remember reading ahead, and finishing the book way ahead of schedule. I just couldn't put it down! I hope everybody has read it at least once. If not, at least watch the movie (and appreciate Gregory Peck). It was published in 1960 and is still relevant to this day.
-Looking For Alaska by John Green
I'll piggy-back off what Rose said about John Green. This is my favorite book by his, but I still have yet to read Turtles All the Way Down. Rose, I'm coming for your copy!!
-How Successful People Grow by John C. Maxwell and How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
My boss actually bought me both of these books, and we're reading through them together at the office. If you're looking to grow in your life you need to read these. If you're not, you should be looking to grow, and read these anyways.
-Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur
I have not started this book yet, but I've read Twelve Extraordinary Men by MacArthur, so I know this is going to be a good one. I bought it off ThriftBooks for around $6 so I'm super pumped about that. ThriftBooks is my favorite online thrift book retailer! You can buy severely discounted new or used books there. I use it quite often (this isn't an ad, just a helpful tip).
-If You Feel Too Much by Jamie Tworkoski
“This new material was written during a painful season, maybe the hardest of my life. The book’s subtitle is ‘Thoughts on Things Found and Lost and Hoped For.’ The new writing really speaks to all of that. It’s about finding something and losing it and not knowing how to let go. i’m nervous about sharing some things that are deeply personal, but the hope is that if someone else is hurting, this new edition might help them know they’re not alone.”
—TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski
This book is one of my all time favorites. I suggest getting a copy, and sitting down to read it with a pen. Mine is so marked up with highlights and notes in the margin, but I love reading it and seeing my thoughts from past times reading it. Such a quality book.
I hope you've gotten some new book recommendations, and a little more insight as to who we are.
XO,
Reece
