To me, New York City will always be home. I have never lived there but NYC speaks to my heart. The Concrete Jungle has always inspired and freed me, as opposed to how others feel enclosed. There's room for people from every walk of life to find the place they belong. If you've been to New York and hated it, try these tips out to hopefully have a better experience! Here are my tips on how to have the best experience in the Big Apple:
- WEAR WALKING SHOES. If you can’t walk NYC blocks in heels that is ok but trust me when I say your feet will thank you. Bring a bag with you that has your heels (or cute, uncomfortable shoes) so you can switch shoes when you get to your dinner spot or the theater. Your outfit won’t suffer, and neither will your feet😉
- Location! If it’s your first time, stay on Times Square. It’s crazy, energetic and never stops, but being able to walk out of your hotel to Times Square is a cool experience you don’t want to miss. If it’s not your first time, stay at the Lexington Hotel, or somewhere farther from the Times Square atmosphere. When you do, you will feel more like a local because there are apartment buildings next to you or across from you.
- Shop Fifth Ave. Go into the stores you can’t afford, daydream over what your life would be like if you could buy that pair of shoes, forget about everything else. Enjoy yourself! Tiffany’s is a personal favorite, and then of course there’s the 3 B’s: Bergdorf, Barney’s and Bloomingdales.
- Have Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Yes, this is a thing. The flagship Tiffany & Co store has now opened the Blue Box Cafe. You and your companions can eat breakfast, lunch, dinner or have tea looking out on Fifth Avenue. Of course, you have to do some shopping, or at least browsing, while you’re there.

- Serendipity 3 and Paris Baguette. Serendipity is 110% worth however long the wait is. Frozen hot chocolate will change your life & all of their other specialty drinks and treats are delicious too! Bonus: watch the movie Serendipity while you’re there. Paris Baguette (My family went to the one on Lexington Ave) is delicious. I loved getting fresh pastries & eating in the adorable atmosphere provided by the bakery.
- Go to at least one Broadway show, if not more than one. The last time I was in NYC, which was March 2015 😭, my family and I went to see Aladdin, which is my favorite Disney movie. I absolutely LOVED it! Wicked and Mary Poppins are my two other favorite broadway shows I have seen. The next time I am in NYC, I am hoping to see Anastasia and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Of course there are the ever popular Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miserables.
I hope these tips are helpful for the next time you find yourself in the beautiful New York, New York. If you need help booking or planning any trips be sure to check out ciatravelgroup.com and talk to Reece!
