The Paris of the Plains

Kansas City has been called the Paris of the Plains, so it’s no wonder that those are two of our favorite cities. We’ve been wanting to write about this city that is near and dear to both of our hearts, so here we go! For both KC dwellers, and those who have never been, buckle down and let’s talk about this amazing city. Don’t worry, we love St. Louis too, and we’ll have a blog post about STL coming soon😍

Reece was born in Kansas City, and her family lived there for a few years until she moved to the Columbia area. She’s always held this city near and dear to her heart, and hopes that maybe someday she’ll move back there. Rose has grown up around KC her whole life and then in 2015 Big Kahuna came along (officially). So, she spent a lot of time there because of him!

We both have so many great memories in KC, a lot of them spent at these places. We may touch on more of those later, but for right now we’re just going to talk about some of our favorite places.

- Country Club Plaza - If you’ve spent any time in KC I hope you’ve spent some at The Plaza. It’s a great place for a date or just to hang out with friends. From high end shopping like Tiffany’s, Michael Kors, and MAC, to more affordable spots like Forever 21 and H&M, the Plaza caters to everybody. If you can, be sure to check it out over Christmas to see it lit up for the Holiday’s, or spend the weekend there for the Plaza Art Fair, which is usually held in late September. Don’t forget about all the restaurants! They have chains like Fogo de Chao and The Cheesecake Factory, and more local establishments like Plaza III.

- Kauffman Stadium - We both grew up in Baseball loving families, and the Royals happen to be our favorite team.. As upset as we are that some of our favorites are no longer with the team we still plan on attending as many games as we can! No more honorary Hossy butt pics ☹️We still have our Salvy though, among some of our other favorites💙We’re super excited to see the renovations they just completed, so catch us at Kauffman on the regular.

- Union Station and Crown Center - such an eclectic place! Union Station is beautiful, and family friendly with the science center located inside. They also have several cafes and shops on the inside, so there’s plenty to do. You can hop over the skywalk to Crown Center after that, and find more stores and restaurants. Crown Center is also home to an Ice Terrace, a Theatre, and an Aquarium.

- Longboards - literally the best burrito in KC. Get the Chicken Cabo, it’ll change your life.

- Nelson-Atkins Museum - go👏🏻here👏🏻It has free admission so it makes for a fun budget-friendly date. If you pack a lunch there are several parks right there that are great for picnics on sunny days.

- Zoos - The Kansas City Zoo and Deanna Rose Farmstead are both great places to go. The Farmstead is a free petting zoo that’s very family friendly. It’s probably suited more for younger kids, so for the older crowd the Zoo is probably the way to go.

- River Market - This is one of Rose’s favorite places in KC. It has everything from jewelry to fresh flower bouquets. There are several booths with flowers you can either choose individually or pick one of the pre-made ones. Plus they’re only about $10! 💐Another great thing about the River Market is the food and coffee shops!

- Half-Price Books - You can easily spend hours there. It’s close to the Plaza, so if you want to end your day in a quiet setting this is a great place to go. They also have thousands of records, so if you’re looking for a good deal on both new and classic vinyls, you can probably find what you’re looking for there.

- Theaters - Starlight and The Midland. One of Reece’s favorite memories growing up is going to Starlight to see shows like The Sound of Music and Beauty and the Beast, and getting frozen lemonade as a treat. It’s an outdoor theater, so it’s not open year-round, but there’s nothing like going to shows under the stars. The Midland is a concert venue located in East Village. The Spring Center is cool too, but there is something so intimate about the smaller venues. Reece has seen some of her favorite artists there, including Switchfoot and Halsey.

- Kansas City BBQ - just in general. You really cannot go wrong with BBQ in KC, although Jack Stack and LC’s BBQ are some of the best. Rose’s favorite is Hawg Jaw! They even have red cream soda 😍

KC is a beautiful and on-trend city that we’re both in love with. Leave a comment and let us know what some of your favorite things to do here are!
