So I woke up this morning, and realized it was Friday... which means NEW BLOG POST! We may have been slacking this week and didn't have anything ready. So I started stressing out and searching for inspiration on this lovely thing called Pinterest, and thought hey! let's talk about DE-stressing (instead of stressing about what to write about)😉Two birds with one stone.
We threw together our favorite tips and tricks for you on how to get rid of added stress in your life.
- Candles, essential oils or lotion: Scent has a lot of control over how you feel so it is important to know how humans are affected. Lavender makes you sleepy, Orange and ginger energizes you and Eucalyptus and spearmint de-stresses you. I love Bath and Body Works aromatherapy Stress Relief body cream, body scrub, bath salts and body wash. I also love LUSH Cosmetics Sleepy Lotion.
- Bubble baths: Favorite salts - Mayfair Soap Foundry Sea Lilly Jasmine Bath Salts
Favorite Bath bombs - LUSH Cosmetics bath bombs are my favorite! Here’s my top three: Intergalactic, Sex Bomb and Twilight. I just got the Pink Bomb, which is apparently inspired by Audrey Hepburn so I’m excited to try it! Who doesn't love a nice bubble bath??
- Do a face mask: Our favorites are Mario Badescu Flower and Tonic, LUSH Cosmetics Cup O’ Coffee and Pacifica Cherry Lava.
- HYDRATE. Start your day with a glass of water, and then start in on your coffee. A good rule of thumb to make sure you’re drinking enough water is to take your body weight, cut it in half, and convert it to ounces. So if you weigh 110 lbs you should be drinking 55 ounces of water. More when you’re more active.
- Movement. Speaking of being active, you need to move daily. You don’t have to drop big bucks on a gym membership if that’s not your cup of tea, but simply take your dog for a walk every day, or do some yoga. Your body needs to be active in some way each day, even if you don’t feel like it.
- Calming music. This may not always mean slow music. Just whatever calms you down, whether it be trap, heavy metal, country, classical, whatever. Music releases Dopamine, which is your “Happy Hormone”. Listening for just 15 minutes can do you a world of good.
- Make your bed and pick up your room, even if you’re not a tidy person. Having the space around you cluttered adds to stress, whether or not you realize it. So buck up buttercup, and do some cleaning! You’ll thank yourself later.
- Turn off your phone. I’m so bad about just being “busy” while I have my phone on, so I’m doing my best to be aware of that. Try being more productive and less busy. You'll feel like you really got something done that day.
- Call your mommy. No explanation needed. Love you mommy💕
- Retail therapy (IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT) - spending a little on yourself won’t hurt! For instance, on Wednesday I bought myself the Pink bath bomb because I was near a LUSH store. I wasn’t necessarily sad or stressed at the time but it did make me happy! Plus, for when I’m stressed out I will have it on hand. Retail therapy doesn't always mean spending hundreds (or thousands) of dollars.
- Be intentional about spending time every week with your close friends. The two of us have had a scheduled day to hang out since we were 15 or 16. With a scheduled day you don’t have to worry about trying to schedule each week, which is nice. Sometimes we watch friends, or a movie, sometimes we do yoga (okay it was once, but we have every intention of doing it more… in the future). Recently we’ve been watching Riverdale! Now we also have this blog together that gives us another way to connect. We have done a bible study together and we are currently trying to figure out what book we should read together.
Try incorporating some of these if you haven't already. Start small, maybe try drinking enough water today, and end your day with a relaxing bath with your phone turned off.
We'd love to hear how you de-stress!!
XO,
Reece and Rose
