Your outfit can never be complete with naked lips! Audrey Hepburn said, "On a bad day there's always lipstick." We all have lipsticks and glosses that are our “go-to’s” and here are mine.
As you can see I have a couple that are typically considered hard to wear colors, like purple and blue. My skin tone is more olive, and since I have dark hair, these are easy colors for me to wear.
Something to be aware of when wearing dark lips is to not go heavy on the eyes. Nude eyeshadows and a little mascara will go a long way.
Another thing to remember is you never know what you can pull off until you try it! I’ve never had a negative comment while wearing these crazy colors (unless you count the initial reaction my father had when I came out wearing blue lipstick.) You only regret the lipstick you don't wear.
Wearing a nude lip is when you can go dark with your eye makeup. It creates a nice balance with your face, and won’t pull too much attention from your eyes.
The first lipstick is Freedom by Kylie Cosmetics. Unfortunately it was a limited time lipstick, so you can’t find it anymore. It was a Lip Kit so it retailed for $29.
Gypsy by Morhpe is a comparable liquid lipstick that retails for $12. You can order it online from Morphe, or check out your local Ulta and see if they’ll order it and get you free shipping ;)
I love this lipstick. It’s such a crazy color, so I don’t wear it too often, but it’s a fun look for concerts and other events. Plus, who doesn’t love a fun lip that matches your favorite baseball team (Go Royals!!), and it's patriotic! Plus, let's be real. We all have our "seasonal" lipsticks that we wear. This is my Summer/Fall lipstick.
One note, be sure to moisturize your lips with a nice quality chapstick before wearing matte colors. They can dry out your lips a little if you just throw it on.
Next color is Smoked Purple by MAC Cosmetics. I actually bought this Lipstick and Lip Liner from the MAC store in the Galeries Lafayette in Paris. This is by far my favorite dark colored lipstick that I own. I’d pick this shade over other dark colors any day. It’s an easy one for me, and wears very well.
The liner that I have with it is Cyber World. They retail for $17.50 each.
One of the things that I love about this lipstick is it really amps up any outfit! I’ve worn it with everything from dresses to shorts and combat boots, and it just WORKS. The shirt I’m wearing is just a Mizzou T-Shirt, but it even goes with that. Don’t be scared to go a little “out-there” with your lipsticks!
My next color is Jolly Gloss by Kylie Cosmetics. It was originally part of her limited time Christmas 2016 collection which she brought back later as a permanent color. It came in a cute little lipstick holder that doubles as an ornament!
This is more of a Fall or Winter color for me. I wear it the most around Christmas time. It’s usually my Festive pop of color since I rarely wear anything but black 😅
This is honestly such a great quality gloss. It’s very easy to apply, and wears for hours. It’s worth every penny of the $15 it retails for.
Shade #4 is another Kylie Cosmetics Gloss! The shade is Kimmie, and it’s part of her KKW Creme Liquid Lipstick collection. You can purchase the whole collection, which comes with 4 glosses, for $45. Unfortunately you can’t purchase just one shade.
Rose and I bought the KKW Collection together so we each got 2 shades for $22.50, which is such a steal! For the quality of product you’re getting with the KKW Collection it’s worth the price point. These glosses wear so well and are so pigmented. They’re not like your typical gloss.
So far I haven’t met a Kylie Cosmetics product I haven’t liked😅(I feel like this is a good time to pause and leave a little disclaimer: I’m not affiliated with Kylie Cosmetics, or any other brand mentioned in this article. I get no kickback for talking about these brands, or commission if you decide to purchase from one of the links I’ve provided. I simply like these lipsticks.)
For the 5th shade we have yet another Kylie Cosmetics Gloss! This is the shade Literally, and it was one of Kylie’s original gloss shades that she released. It’s the original formula, as is Jolly, so they both will wear the same way. Literally also retails for $15.
This shade is a little darker of a nude look than most people would reach for first, but I love it. I have to be selective about which lighter shades I wear due to my skin tone.
Another thing to remember with these glosses is a little goes a long way. When wearing these just start off wearing just a bit, and layer as needed. Especially with the darker colors.
For the last shade I have another MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in the shade Velvet Teddy. This lipstick retails for $17.50.
I wanted this shade for years before I grabbed it on sale at Ulta this past year. It’s probably my #1 favorite lipstick! If I ever don’t know what lipstick to wear, I’ll just pick this one up. It’s so creamy and soft, I love the way it feels.
Now, go grab your new favorite lipstick from any of these links, I promise you won't be disappointed.
XO,
Reece
